New reports suggest that Ezra Miller is in early talks to join J.K. Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, although there’s controversy regarding which character he’d be portraying.

The information was first reported by Variety, who admits that they do not know how close the two sides are on closing a deal, but that Miller “has always been the favorite.” According to them, the actor has been eyed for the role of Kredan (someone we hadn’t heard of before), a wizard “who encounters magizoologist Newt Scamander when he stops in New York City on his travels to find and document magical creatures.”

The description is obviously very vague, so we don’t have many details to speculate on.

However, that character may not even be the one Warner Bros. want Miller to play. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ezra is actually in talks to play Jacob, whom we have heard of before and is supposed to be the second male lead next to Newt and the female characters of Porpentina and Queenie. Details about Jacob (just like everything else surrounding the project) are being kept under wraps, but we do know that he is supposed to be Scamander’s rival, if not necessarily a villain.

About Jacob, Variety notes that their sources tell them that Josh Gad (right) and Michael Cera (left) are meeting with execs next week to see who will take the role of Scamander’s rival.

Clearly, nothing can be confirmed at this point. Four weeks ago it was reported that Steve Zissis, Zack Pearlman and Dan Fogler were also in contention for the role of Jacob, so we’ll have to wait for an official announcement from the studio to know who is actually playing the second male lead and if a character named Kredan actually exists.

As of this moment the only two cast members that have been confirmed are Eddie Redmayne for the starring role of Newt Scamander and Katherine Waterston, who will play the role of Tina (short for Porpentina,) whom we know eventually becomes Newt’s wife.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is getting released on November 18, 2016.
