Actress Emma Watson will lead a new film next to Academy Award winner Tom Hanks.

The movie is titled The Circle and is based on the 2014 novel of the same name, written by Dave Eggers. The book is set in the California campus of a powerful fictional internet company that links users’ personal emails, social media, banking, and purchasing with their universal operating system, resulting in one online identity.

The story is described as a suspense novel that raises “questions about memory, history, privacy, democracy, and the limits of human knowledge.” Watson will play Mae Holland, a woman who is hired to work for the Circle and along the way discovers the company’s secrets. Hanks will be a colleague of hers.

“Emma Watson is one of my favorite actors, and her incredible talent, sensitivity, and deep intelligence will bring an electric energy to The Circle,” said director James Ponsoldt, who helmed 2013’s The Spectacular Now, starring Shailene Woodley and Miles Teller.

Production on the film is expected to begin this September after the Harry Potter star wraps filming on Disney’s live-action Beaty and the Beast.
