Universal Studios Hollywood have announced that, beginning Spring 2016, west coast Harry Potter fans will be able to visit Hogwarts.

The new Wizarding World of Harry Potter land, which has been in the making for over five years, will be very similar to the original theme park at Universal Orlando Resort, save for a few differences. The first of those differences is an exciting addition to the signature attraction Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. In its Hollywood version, the Forbidden Journey experience will be in 3D-HD, taking guests on a journey into many memorable scenes alongside Harry, Ron and Hermione. “Traveling by Floo powder, guests will soar high above Hogwarts, partake in a Quidditch match, narrowly escape a dragon attack and have a close encounter with the Whomping Willow,” reads the ride’s description.

Just like in Orlando, the main attraction will be located inside Hogwarts castle, which will serve as the iconic focal point of the land. The Castle will be accompanied by eight other retail stores and locations: Honeydukes, Ollivanders, Owl Post, Zonko’s Joke Shop, Wiseacre’s Wizarding Equipment, Dervish and Banges, Gladrags Wizardwear and Filch’s Emporium of Confiscated Goods.

Finally, the family coaster Flight of the Hippogriff will debut as Universal Studios Hollywood’s first outdoor coaster.

An exact opening day has not been revealed yet, and even though it was mentioned before that we could expect a 2016 opening, this is the first time that the time frame has been narrowed to the Spring only. This means that we could be anywhere from 9-12 months away from the land’s debut.

Universal Studios will be hosting a live video stream at 1PM ET / 10AM PT to comment on the announcement. The streaming will be available here.

This will be the third Wizarding World land, following the 2010 opening of the Orlando park and last year’s Osaka (Japan) debut.
